Distance…

It’s one of the things that can hurt relationships.  We have email, instant messaging, and text messaging. None of these things can replace physical contact.  They can have all of the “emotion icons” they want, but the outcome is the same.  None of these tools express emotions or personality.  Perhaps webcams can make the world smaller, but that assumes everyone has a fast internet connection and are tech savvy.

The only things that comes close are cell phones and telephones.  At least with phones, you can hear a person’s tone of voice.  However, telephones don’t solve the problem of distance.  There are times when talking on the phone can bring on more emotional pain.  Although you can hear someone whispering in your ear, when you look to the side, you see a wall.

A friend for life…

It’s a great luxury that no one should live without, but at the same time, you can’t hunt for it.  A friend for life can be anything.  It can be a dog, a male/female friend, parent, your boss, or your spouse. If you try to hang onto these things by force, you will end up losing them.  It’s like forcing acceptance.  Whether your forcing acceptance for a job or love, it’s not going to happen.  Reciprocation is the difference. With that, there is no force because it’s mutual.

I’m sure everyone has heard of this quote: “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” I’m not exactly sure what this means, but here are my thoughts.

We keep our friends close to our hearts.  With our friends, there is so much trust that we don’t need to watch their every move.  I’m very comfortable having my friends watch my stuff at school because I know they won’t do me wrong.  On the other hand, we monitor our enemies because we don’t know what they are up to.  We need to keep our enemies closer to us than our friends because there is no trust.
